Ecrit: Write the first version of your essay comparing your academic experience (so far) with the one of your grandparents or parents. Make sure to organize the information you collect by categories (discipline, subjects, class length, teachers, methodologies, homework, grading, etc...) and also organize your notes by similarities and differences.  It is important to carefully proof-read your text (agreements of verbs / adjectives / gender / conjugations / spelling).

Géographie: Ecris une page d’introduction pour ce cours en faisant la liste de ce qu’on peut apprendre dans un cours de géographie (comme on a fait en classe). Pour chaque catégorie, donne 1 exemple avec de bonnes indications.

Ex.  1- Le relief : Le Mont Bachelor se trouve en Oregon et a une altitude de 2 764 m.

       2- Les cours d’eau et plans d’eau (rivières, fleuves, lacs, mers et océans) – Le Mississippi est long de 3 780 km et se trouve aux Etats-Unis, il traverse plusieurs états et se jette dans le golfe du Mexique.

Ecrit: Listen to the CD and read along your book and write a summary of 100-150 words. Choose 10 words that are new to you or not too familiar. Write the nature of each word (nom, verbe, adjectif, adverbe) and write a definition (you can also add a translation). Remember, verbs need to be listed in the infinitive form. This assignment is due Monday 10th (however, you can turn it in as soon as you are done).

Devoirs pour lundi 30 avril: La Petite Fille au kimono rouge -  We will have in-class essays about the story requiring you to recollect scenes and analyze their meaning. Several topics will be proposed, and you will choose to answer two. Assessment will evaluate your knowledge of the story, your ability to articulate the message it convey, and to write in French. To prepare for this task, reread parts of the story you are less familiar with, and reread parts of the story you find particularly relevant to the main topic of the book : cultures and friendship.

1-    Lire l’histoire de l’immigration des Coréens p. 15-16 + créer 6 questions de compréhension (écrire les réponses au dos de la feuille).

2-    Lire l’histoire des peuples de l’Indonésie p. 16 à 18 + répondre aux questions 1 à 5 p. 10

3-    Lire les informations sur l’immigration des peuples d’Asie (récapitulation) p. 25-29 + répondre aux questions des pages 10 à 11 (questions de réflexion).

4-    Lire Weedflower  + répondre au questionnaire (à rendre le 6 avril).

5-    Lire votre livre en français + écrire un résumé ± 150 mots + faire un recherche de 20 mots de vocabulaire. Indiquer la nature (verbe, nom, adjectif, adverbe, locution), donner une définition, un synonyme ou un antonyme. Quand la situation est appropriée (un nom, un verbe d’action), un dessin ou une image est acceptable.

6-    Finir la feuille de grammaire sur les adjectifs et les pronoms possessifs/démonstratifs si nécessaire.

Criteria for an excellent grade
Your voice is audible and clear.
You know your story very well, and it shows.
You use your poster board to your advantage, but not as a crutch.  
You look at your audience while you speak (not at your board nor at your notes). 
You don't stumble on difficult words/section (dates, names, technical words, etc...)
Your speech is slow enough that we understand, but fast enough that you keep our interest up.
You are telling enough of your story that it is interesting and meaningful.

CC: Work on the French version of your Cultural Festival project - Remember that pasting your text or small chunks at the time on Google translate is CHEATING, and doesn't equal to you writing in French. Your French version can be shorter and simpler than your English version. You have many linguistic tools to tell the stories you need to tell : past tenses, country names, vocab (use on-line dictionaries if you don't own a good French-English dictionary - http://www.wordreference.com/fr  -  www.tv5.org). It is also important that you read what you write. You should now catch the fact that too many of your verbs are at the infinitive, yet should be conjugated (passé composé / imparfait). Also, if you are using Google docs, make sure to share with me and Anou.

This is what you need to have ready by Friday:
1) Text in English
2) text in French
3) Title and captions for all pictures in French and English.
4) Text for oral presentation in French (due on Tuesday)


Parlons! Les Nouvelles!  Write a few lines for your script, and write down your ideas for your interview - Don't come to class empty handed.

CC: Cultural Festival : Continue your research and composition of your project. Make sure to read aloud your writing to evaluate its impact. The English version is due on Monday.

Grammaire: Finish your story - Remember you need about 15 verbs. Proofread your story to make sure your choice of tense (imparfait vs. passé composé) is accurate AND that your verbs are well conjugated. If you had class with Anou review your verb conjugation (Petit Contrôle).

• CC: Cultural Festival : Start composing your paragraphs and/or gather more information. It is important to collect information you need for this project early on to take advantage of our class time for composition.

• Parlons! : Go over your lines if your group still needs to be filmed (unfortunately, many of students left their scripts in the classrooms).

• CC: Work on your research for Cultural Festival - Write topic sentences for each of your "chunk" (meaning sections), and start filling out information you have. If you need to interview someone for your project, this week-end might be a good one. Remember to gather anecdotes (particular stories) to illustrate a situation (how difficult / scary / dangerous something was). Start collecting your visuals (photos / newspaper clips / medals / insignia / ....).

• Parlons! : Go over your lines if your group was not able to be filmed on Friday (unfortunately, many of students left their scripts in the classrooms). 

Ecrit: Edit your paragraph of solutions. Make sure to apply what we went over on Friday: at least 4 sentences (topic - how/why/examples - conclusion) - Click here to review our examples.

Festival Culturel: By Monday, you should have enough information about your project to know what will be the different parts (chucks) of your presentation. Knowing this will help you know where more research is needed, and how to focus your questions. Keep all your information well organized (in your binder).

Skits: Learn your lines, bring props and clothes that are needed for your skit. We will film some Thursday and other Monday. Practice, practice, practice....

Ecrit: Finish your essay and make sure it corresponds to the assignment (4 paragraphs / problem-solution / each solution needs to be elaborate = 3 to 4 sentences, and related to the problem(s) stated).
