Content
* You will study the story of diverse groups of people who have come to the United States and contributed to its growth 
• You will ask who, when, why, and how to study their struggles and their contributions to the making of the American culture.
• Groups studied:  Native Americans, Europeans. African Americans, Asian (mainly Chinese and Japanese), Mexicans
• You will research and present your own cultural journey

Skills in French
• You will acquire a wide range of vocabulary in order to read, write, speak and listen about the social study content of the class.
• You will review and solidify your understanding of French grammar.
• At the end of the year, your goal is to reach at least the Intermediate-mid level of ACTFL proficiency scale in all language skills (reading / writing / speaking / listening)

Skills in English
• You will practice and show your ability to read and comprehend texts to your grade level. This means that you will need to answer questions, summarize and analyze a variety of texts for diverse purposes.
• You will practice and show your ability to write a variety of texts. This means that you will produce clear and coherent texts that are developed, supported with relevant evidence and well organized.

Grading Synergy
• Proficiency grading on a 5 points scale.
• Most assignments will assess several standards. 
• For most standards, power law will be used to calculate the score. This means that the later score for a given standard weighs more heavily to calculate the overall score. It is important that you understand this system. It means that it is never too late to show mastery of a skill or a topic. However, it is your responsibility to seek advice (extra instruction), and new opportunity (redo/ retake) to show your proficiency

Study Skills
• You will learn to be organized.
• You will learn to be responsible for your education (knowing what is expected of you, doing work to the best of your abilities, and knowing where you stand academically).
• You will learn to use adequately, responsibly and with honesty tools at your disposition (no cheating, plagiarism, Google translate, tutor edited work will be submitted as your own). 
• You will learn to be a productive, kind and supportive group member

Citizenship
• You are expected to be kind, honest, and respectful.
• You will help generate classroom rules to provide a safe and conducive to learning environment, and respect these rules.
