of people who have come to the United States and contributed to its growth
• You will ask who, when, why, and how to

culture.

Americans, Asian (mainly Chinese and Japanese), Mexicans

in order to read, write, speak and listen about the social study content of the

Skills in English
• You will practice and show your ability to
read and comprehend texts to your grade level. This means that you will need to
answer questions, summarize and analyze a variety of texts for diverse
purposes.
• You will practice and show your ability to
write a variety of texts. This means that you will produce clear and coherent
texts that are developed, supported with relevant evidence and well organized.
Grading Synergy
• Proficiency grading on a 5 points scale.
• Most assignments will assess several
standards.
• For most standards, power law
will be used to calculate the score. This means that the later score for a
given standard weighs more heavily to calculate the overall score. It is
important that you understand this system. It means that it is never too late
to show mastery of a skill or a topic. However, it is your responsibility to
seek advice (extra instruction), and new opportunity (redo/ retake) to show
your proficiency
